Members Present:Kyle, Rob, and Wes

Divide up work for this week’s assignment on the Design Notebook. (5 minutes)
Set up an agreeable meeting time for Sunday afternoon. (5 minutes)

Exploring the Problem

1.) As the meeting convened, Rob reviewed with everyone the improvements made to the notebook, which should change our NI to an M. Page numbers are now updated, and an accurate table of contents has been created.

2.) We divided up the work for Monday’s assessment. Each member took an equal amount of work to contribute to the notebook. Wes was responsible for emailing Vince with his part of the work.

3.) Several members are going away for the weekend, so a scheduled meeting time is 8:00PM on Sunday afternoon at the Trabant building. At this brief meeting, the members will bring their contributions to be placed in the Design Notebook.

4.) As a team, we went over the “Exploring the Problem” aspect of the ongoing long-term balloon assignment. We reviewed the expectations for the product, and discussed ideas for customers. Rob suggested interviewing a younger member of his family that would be an ideal customer for the launcher. At such an early stage in development, it is difficult for us to talk in specific terms about the product.

3rd – We will use an Osborn checklist technique to come up with new ideas.
4th – We will convert the generated list into a rough sketch of a fishbone diagram.
5th – We will discuss research for benchmarking.
6th – We will set up an agenda for the next team meeting.

Minutes 10/14/04

The team reviewed the assignment expectations. We briefly discussed the general expectations of the assignment to be sure that all of us understood what was required. Vince was unable to be present due to work.

The team brainstormed collectively for approximately 20 minutes. We wrote down our responses on paper. When we became stuck for new ideas, we built off of each other’s ideas. We also used random generation to continue the flow of ideas. The conclusive list of brainstormed ideas can be found as a word-processed document in the design notebook.

From this point, we maximized, minimized, and changed around old ideas to come up with newer ideas (Osborn’s Checklist).

The list of ideas was broken up into several categories, and presented in a rough sketch of a fishbone diagram. A word-processed version of this diagram is also available and is placed in the design notebook.

Together, the team discussed the meaning of benchmarking, and we all decided to do our part in the research. We discussed several sources of information, including web research, toy department store visits, and library research.

An agenda was set up for the next meeting. The next meeting will take place at Trabant on Saturday, the 16 at approximately 1:00PM.
