Biomedical Engineering
Biomedical engineering research at the University of Delaware refers to the application of engineering principles and techniques to the human body and medical field. This field combines the design and problem solving skills of engineering with medical and biological sciences to help improve quality of life. Areas of ExpertiseWithin the Department of Mechanical Engineering at UD, we have numerous areas of expertise with applications in sports medicine, physical therapy, orthopedics and neulogical injury.
Research in these areas in generally done in collaboration with investigators from the biomedical industry, local hospitals such as the A. I. du Pont Hospital for Children, nearby medical schools such as Thomas Jefferson Medical School and the University of Pennsylvania, and other departments on campus such as Physical Therapy, Health, Nutrition and Exercise Science, and Computer Science.
