Graduate Admissions and Information
The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers three graduate degree programs: Master of Science, Master of Engineering, and Ph.D. All graduate programs offer considerable flexibility in course selection and specialization of study. Students with a Bachelor's degree may opt to pursue a direct Ph.D. program. While most incoming graduate students have a degree in mechanical engineering or other closely related fields of engineering, our graduate programs are also suitable for students with degrees in physics or mathematics.
We offer a competitive graduate assistant stipend and tuition waiver. There is a large amount of research funding available. First year Ph.D. students are usually supported by Fellowships, Teaching Fellowships or Teaching Assistantships. This allows new graduate students to explore research opportunities with faculty members and select a faculty advisor during the first year. Funding for subsequent years is provided through Research Assistantships, under the supervision of individual professors. Some graduate students are selected by individual professors to receive RA’s from the first year itself.
Applications are normally considered for fall admission only.
