Why Study Engineering at Delaware?
Are you looking for value and quality education? The UD ME department has demonstrated both.
The University of Delaware is cost-competitive. Money Magazine and a US News and World Report Survey rated UD as one of the "Best Buys" in the country. Our beautiful campus environment is also a major plus! Living in Newark -- Say "New-Ark" -- means you can avoid some big-city problems.
ME has demonstrated excellence in its programs and faculty. ME is fully accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), the national organization responsible for maintaining the quality of engineering education.
Are you worried about getting lost at one of the big state universities? UD ME has the advantage of being a small enough department that the professors can get to know you personally, and tailor your program to your needs. Your personal Faculty Advisor will advise you about course selection, career advice, and many other aspects of your college career.
Also, professors teach all undergraduate ME courses at Delaware, not graduate assistants. The emphasis on quality is shown by the teaching survey that students complete for each course. Questions include whether you think the professor was fully prepared, if you would take another class with him or her, and many more.
The Department emphasizes the design part of engineering education, from the freshman year right through Senior Design, and beyond. Senior Design is run like a company, called New Castle Design Associates, to make your experience as a design team member as realistic as possible.
UD also provides opportunities for qualified undergraduates to perform research projects. This allows research-oriented students to try out research before deciding about graduate school. A new ME Honors program rewards excellent students for consistent high-level performance.
The main ingredient in our high quality is our excellent faculty. They all hold the degree of Ph.D., and come from a diverse set of quality institutions.
